WILD FLOWER FOREST
The Wild Flower Forest was a lovely initiative that was launched on the Canungra Farm property from 2020 to 2022. It was a lovely way to utilise the property through the summer and autumn months when this is traditionally a time that is very unpredictable for growing annual crops due to volatility of the weather and also seasonal heat and insect/weed pressure. I have left this section on the website to celebrate the chance to broadcast flower seeds over a few acres and sit back and enjoy the majesty of it.
My personal observations at this time included observing an explosion of insect and animal numbers die to the seemingly oasis nature of the site. Millions of Butterflies, pollinators, small predatory creatures, larger animals who came to find shelter in the dense floral rows.
My observations regarding the human interaction with the conceptual space was mixed. I found that most folk did not know how to put down their phones after doing a multitude of selfies. Once they had done a lap of the grounds, they enquired……. “is that it?”.
Some other humans came to immerse themselves in the space and to sit in commune with the ecosystem.
